CoviFind COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Self-Test - COVID-19 Home Test kit approved by ICMR

Meril Diagnostics from Gujarat (India) has announced that its self-use Rapid Antigen Test kit for COVID-19, CoviFind, has received approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The test kit is priced at ₹250 and will be made available as a single-pack, with additional purchase options including a pack of 3, 5, and 25 tests.

The CoviFind test for at-home self-testing is highly effective in individuals with mid to high viral load, especially in detecting infection in the case of individuals more likely to transmit the disease to others.

The test kit will be available at retail pharmacies, e-pharmacies and through e-commerce platforms including Amazon and Flipkart.

Highlights:

·         It is an In-Vitro diagnostics immunochromatographic rapid assay kit for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigen.

·         The test also delivers results swiftly, in just 15 minutes.

·         Nasal swab specimens from symptomatic & asymptomatic individuals are used for the test.

·         This test is authorized & intended for non-prescription home use as self-test.

·          This test intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infections.

·         A positive test result should be considered as a true positive & does not need reconfi­rmation by RT-PCR test.

·         Negative results must be combined with clinical observations, patient history, and epidemiological information.

·         Symptomatic individuals identifi­ed negative by Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) should be linked with RT-PCR test facility and subsequently get tested by RT-PCR to rule out COVID-19 infection.

·         In the meantime, such individual will be urged to follow home isolation and treatment as a negative report on RAT may not be true negative in some cases.

·         Each test kit is equipped with testing materials including a test device, one sterile nasal swab and a pre-filled buffer tube with a cap.

·         No additional instrumentation is necessary.

·         The kit will also contain an Instructions for Use (IFU) leaflet, detailing step-by-step procedure on administration, handling and post-use disposal of the test kit, along with a disposable bag.

·         The test kit does not have any specific storage or refrigeration requirements.
