Xiaomi surpasses Apple to become the world's second-largest smartphone manufacturer, but Samsung maintains the top spot: Canalys

In the second quarter of 2021, Xiaomi ranked second with a 17 percent share of worldwide smartphone shipments. 

When compared to Samsung and Apple, the average sale price of Xiaomi phones is almost 75% lower.

According to a prediction released on Thursday by market research firm Canalys, Xiaomi would surpass Apple to become the world's second largest smartphone manufacturer in the second quarter of 2021.

According to the market analysis agency, Xiaomi gained the second spot for the first time, with a 17 percent share of global smartphone shipments, up 3 percent over the previous quarters.

Worldwide smartphone shipments increased by 12% in the second quarter, with Samsung Electronics leading the way with a 19% share and Apple coming in third with a 14% share.

According to Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton, the average sale price of Xiaomi phones is around 40% to 75% lower than that of Samsung and Apple, respectively. He also stated that a major objective for Xiaomi this year is to increase sales of its high-end products.



According to the research, the company's shipments increased by more than 300 percent across Latin America, 150 percent across Africa, and 50 percent across Western Europe.

According to the survey, Vivo and Oppo kept up their strong growth momentum to round out the top five smartphone producers in the world. Oppo and Vivo both acquired a 10% share of worldwide shipments in Q2 2021, placing them fourth and fifth, respectively.

Samsung on top had a steady growth of 15 percent in year-on-year shipments, while Xiaomi's global shipments grew by a staggering 83 percent and Apple at number 3 grew marginally by 1 percent, the report shows. Oppo and Vivo shipments increased by 28 percent and 27 percent, respectively.
